Don’t Be Fooled By “Full Coverage”

Do not be fooled into thinking that your "full coverage" will cover all of your damages in the event of an accident.  "Full coverage" is not a legal term and has no legally meaning.  At best, it simply means you have the minimum legally required insurance coverage , and even then you may have contractual limits or conditions that have to be met in order to successfully make a claim against your policy.

As a general rule of thumb, you will want to consult with an auto accident lawyer whenever dealing with insurance companies. Unfortunately, dealing with the insurance companies after a wreck is incredible burdensome.  The insurance companies are in the business of making money, and to make money, they will pay you as little as possible and want to deny your claim if possible. Do not make the mistake of relying on the insurance company to look out for your best interest.

The Chicago skilled auto accident lawyers at Mannis and Associates, Ltd. have over 24 years of experience in handling car insurance claims and want to put their experience to work for you. If you were involved in any car accident in Chicago or any of the other communities in the Cook County area, whether you believe you may have a claim or not, call (888) 646-9632 or email us  today for a free initial consultation.

Fool's Coverage

People often rely on their auto insurance broker's advice when choosing coverage. Unfortunately, the broker is more frequently interested in earning the highest possible commission than in selling the best policy for the customer's needs.  Often, a broker will sell a "full coverage" policy, and people assume that "full coverage" means what it seems to imply and that it includes all of the coverage you may need.  Unfortunately this is not the case, and in most cases, "full coverage" only means having the legally minimum required coverage. Unless you ask the right questions, the broker may not describe all provisions available, what each provision actually provides, why you need it or don't need it, and how much coverage you should carry.
Denial of Coverage / Failure to cooperate:

Many insurers (particularly substandard insurance companies) will try to find ways to deny coverage. The most common argument is that the claimant (i.e., you) failed to properly notify the insurer of the accident within the time limits set in the policy.  Insurers will also argue that you failed to cooperate with the investigation or defense of the claim. These are typical conditions of auto policies and insurers may unfairly accuse you of failing to fulfill these conditions.

The whole insurance process will be easier following your accident if you know the details of your coverage. So, don't wait until after an accident to find out that your policy doesn't cover your medical costs or be denied because you did not submit a claim within the applicable notice period.
